True Spell Book

The Eight Schools Framework of the True Spell Book project is an evolution of the world building around the spell casting systems presented in the fifth edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

The completed grimoire will be the game book everyone who has ever played a wizard wished for. With a little help, Bespoke Legends will deliver.  Like all of our material, every spell is curated to bring the most real experience to the player possible. Holding the finished product in your hands, studying the arcane images and information within, you will truly know what all those hours of spell preparation feel like.

But you won’t need hours. Every spell* includes the mechanics for casting it real time, in game, with the advantage of not having to slog through every other class’ spells to find the spell alphabetically. True Spell Book pages will be alphabetical, by level to ensure all the information and inspiration is at your fingertips.

*True Spell Book contains only Open Game License material, though occult’ed up versions of the spells will appear on our Patreon page.  Additionally, we’ll be creating substitute spellforms to fill the gaps as we can. Some secrets can’t be carried from the place where they’re learned.

All explanatory text, sigils, incantations, and spell names contained herein will be presented in raw Sangua. If you can read this without magical aid, then you, or your world have likely contracted the blood tongue. Should mysticism be employed to read beyond this warning, exposure is certain and the chance that you will transmit it, no less so. Sangua is an adaptive memetic virus that alters its host to understand all auditory languages, as well as written works in languages that share a lineage with the host’s native tongue. Sangua was developed to allow diplomatic and interpersonal understanding where communication barriers may have made peace impossible. Unity is not a universal value, however, and this warning is meant respectfully for those who would seek peace in other ways. Every spellform includes the original mechanics available under the OGL, plus a variety of occult and arcane imagery and world building to flesh out the experience of the magical life.  A wizards is only as good as their spell book, a grimoire that goes far beyond simple matters of distance and casting times to teach the deeper sets of symbols that imprint a spellform on the caster’s mind. Light is the perfect example of how this process, beginning with meditation can lead to insights into the function of the wider cosmos.

Ideally Mending should be taught as widely as possible so as to ensure that basic resources can be maintained by the general populace. The interests of major craft and merchant guilds should be utterly ignored in this regard, as high quality goods will always be in demand, but the repair of the kind of cheap, fragile products available to the poor, or sold at a loss to undercut competition, will ultimately lift the common folk out of poverty and destroy the monied interests that would sell them substandard goods to make a quick profit.

The introductory sections will discuss all of the techniques and principles necessary to understand and even recreate most of the material present on these pages. Drawn from reference sources from around the world, each spellform is meant to be true to the original text, while adding as much depth as possible.

More material and commentary on each spell is available on the Patreon post for each spell, much of which will not be included in the final text, given the limitations of one page per level of the spell. These posts also include full size, high resolution versions of several pages per month, as well as commentary research and design.
